Alias: Standard solution; Potassium iodate standard solution
CAS NO:7758-05-6
Appearance and Characteristics: Colorless monoclinic crystal or white crystalline powder. In acidic solution, potassium iodate is a strong oxidizing agent that reacts with reducing substances such as hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen iodate, sulfur dioxide, and hydrogen peroxide. It is reduced itself and releases iodine; Potassium iodate aqueous solution can be reduced to iodide by X-rays or alpha particles; Solid potassium iodate is placed on red charcoal, which has a slight deflagration effect. If mixed with combustible materials and impacted, an explosion occurs. In alkaline media, potassium iodate can be oxidized to potassium periodate by stronger oxidants such as chlorine gas and hypochlorous acid.
